As a natural pain killer
Acupuncture treatments affect the body by stimulating specific sites rich in blood vessels and nerves. These respond with feedback to the central nervous system. Acupuncture causes the body to produce natural steroids and promote the production of natural endorphins. Steroids decrease inflammation, while endorphins are produced by the body to kill pain - an integral part in the breaking up of the pain cycle.
Back Pain
Acupuncture can be an important tool in the reduction / elimination of back pain. Acupuncture may also reduce the chances of chronic back pain from occurring, avoiding surgery. If back pain can be significantly reduced with acupuncture, it also minimises the need for painkillers and their side-effects. Orthotic Insoles are another option by correcting the function of the foot, our Osteopath will be able to determine the best solution for you.
Neck Pain
Studies have shown acupuncture to be effective in relieving certain types of neck pain, particularly those caused by whiplash. Acupuncture can work for patients whose conditions could not be resolved using conventional approaches.
Foot Pain
A study published in the journal Acupuncture in Medicine in 1996 found acupuncture to be effective in relieving otherwise unresponsive chronic foot pain. Orthotic Insoles however (see Home page) usually provide a better solution by correcting foot function, our Osteopath will be able to analyse the best course of action for you.
Knee Pain
Acupuncture can be effective in relieving knee pain, especially arthritic conditions of the knee & knee joint and knee injuries from twisting / jolting e.g. [ACL] anterior cruciate ligament tears or medial collateral ligament [MCL] with contact on to the outside of the knee.
Head Pain
Acupuncture for migraine headaches, cluster headaches, tension headaches and disease-related headaches that might be due to sinus problems, high blood pressure or sleeping disorders can also be effectively treated.
